USING THE MAP SCALE

People drive to get from one place to another. but they don't always know how to get there or how far they will have to drive. one way to make sure of your destination and the distance you'll need to travel is to use a road map.
Suppose you want to drive from Bekasi, Jakarta and Bandung. You'll travel north on highway 60 to route 10 and then  southeast to Jakarta.  Now you know how you're going to drive there, but how can you determine approximately how many miles you'll be traveling ?
Look at the map scale to help you figure out the distance. the numbers along the top show the distance in miles. the scale shows you that 1 inch on the map is equal to about 25 miles. you can use a ruler or a piece of string to estimate your traveling distance. just find out how many inches long your route on the map is anf then multiply by 25.
